The First two weeks
Hello! welcome to my first proper post on my blog. I kind of have to rack my brains to remember what has happened in the past two weeks and I should probably keep a note of anything significant that does.
But here we are.
Category is: Life. Glasgow Pride took place a couple of weeks ago which I attended for the first time, and to be honest the main highlight was spotting the many dogs that took part in the parade wearing cute bandanas and jumpers. I’m not so great with large crowds like this, especially when it’s an event I’ve not been to before, but I’m glad I made it round the procession to the end (the exhaustion after, however, is a different story).
My mum also came to visit me last weekend for some r&r. Took a trip to Queen’s Park in Glasgow’s Southside for some incredible treats and a refreshing strawberry lemonade from Full Circle Bakes who have recently moved from another part of the city. So sad to not have them on my doorstep anymore but it means a day out can be had just to sample their goods! I also managed to order a new working fridge for our flat because I am now sick of eating dried goods and cook from frozen foods. Who would have thought a broken fridge essentially just becomes a really horrible warm cupboard???? I’d like my butter to be in solid form please.
Category is: Business Chic. I’ve been given an excellent opportunity to sell my products at the iconic Barras market in Glasgow’s east end this Saturday! I only have two days off work this week so I’ll be committing myself to the grind to make sure I have so many great things for people to buy. It’s also given me a chance to stock up on supplies needed for future markets like display racks, meaning I can provide more goods for sale! If all goes well I’m really hoping to make this a regular thing and think it’ll be beneficial for meeting other makers and likeminded people, as well as giving me more physical selling experience. I’ve been working on some Bowie earrings, a work in progress is shared below.
I dont know if this will be a regular staple of this blog, but a featured piece of work I’ve done recently is an ode to Kate Bush and Emily Brontë who both celebrated birthdays yesterday on 30th July. I had a lot of fun making the locket design, drawing inspiration from the romanticism both use throughout their works. I was also reminded of the works of John Atkinson-Grimshaw through a friend’s visit to an art gallery recently, and the ethereal aesthetic of his paintings kind of stayed there as I was drawing this image.
That’s everything for this week, see you in two weeks!
